There are certain paintings that satisfy me every time I see them. They greet me fondly on those days when I rearrange the entire studio to avoid actually painting... Fortunately, many of these pieces have found their way to new homes. Last Summer, the oldest of my large paintings, c.1995 traveled 2 miles up Street Road to a lovely new home. Some of these older pieces, though, are slowly becoming sacrificed to new surfaces. They are pieces that somehow feel unresolved, uninteresting, or unlikely ever to strike a chord with anyone. I started a series using these blah paintings last week that I am calling Germination.
They are all small and there are bunches of them. They reflect the beginnings of an idea, the beginnings of a change...and the root of all of that process ~ the past.
